Q. How does the Dermapen work?
A. As the Dermapen stamps over your skin, it creates micro-point punctures in the skin, the majority of which are simply pushing your pores open temporarily. This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. The result is smoother texture and younger looking skin.
Q. How is Dermapen performed?
A. Collagen Induction therapy is performed safely using a sterile Dermapen needle tip cartridge. In most cases, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin to ensure comfort. After the skin is numbed, our Skin Management Experts™ gently move the Dermapen over the skin to puncture the epidermis layers and create minuscule subcutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which may last for up to a year, yet they close within less than one hour.
Q. What skin conditions does the Dermapen treatment?
A. Collagen Induction Therapy is especially effective for aging concerns such as wrinkles, crows feet, lines, folds, and pigmentation. Because collagen is produced, texture, acne scarring as well as other scars, and stretch marks will also improve from treatments.
Q. What is the skin’s appearance after the treatment?
A. After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to mild to moderate sunburn. The client will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatments and within the next 24-48 hours, the skin will be completely healed.
Q. Is there any social downtime?
A. No. Many clients apply makeup after and go out, as it is not noticeable in most cases once makeup is applied. If it is a more aggressive treatment, then there may be more redness and swelling.
Q. How long does the Dermapen treatment take?
A. The treatment is about 30 minutes.
Q. How many treatments do I need?
A. Generally, we recommend a series of 5 treatments, 2 weeks apart.
Q. How quickly can I see results?
A. Visible results can be seen after the first session, however, benefits of skin rejuvenation are fully seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and improve further over time, up to a year.
Q. Is the Dermapen safe?
A. Collagen Induction Therapy does not involve injections and therefore allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. It is minimally invasive, involves minimal after effects (24-48 hours), rapid healing and requires simple after-care.
Q. What are the contraindications of Dermapen treatments?
A. Contraindications and precautions include; keloid or raised scarring; history of eczema, psoriasis, and other chronic conditions; history of actinic (solar) keratosis; history of Herpes Simplex infections; history of diabetes; the presence of raised moles, warts or any raised lesions on targeted area. Absolute contraindications include; scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities; Rosacea and blood clotting problems; active bacterial or fungal infection; immuno-suppression.
Q. Are there any side effects or risks associated with Collagen Induction Therapy?
