What is Platelet-Rich Fibrin?

You may have heard of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). While this treatment revolutionized the use of plasma therapy, it does not utilize all the available platelets or growth factors. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) uses a different method of separating and extracting platelets. As a result, PRF is richer in platelets than PRP. How is ezPRF Ultimate Blood Concentrate Different From PRP?

During extraction of typical PRP, a sample of your blood is spun in a high-speed centrifuge to separate the plasma from the blood cells. This high-speed treatment can result in the loss of many platelets, however. Producing platelet-rich fibrin uses a lower centrifuge speed, leaving more platelets and other cells to use for treatment.

Platelet-rich fibrin also differs from PRP in that no anticoagulants are used. When producing PRP, an anticoagulant prevents the blood from clotting. When making PRF with no anticoagulants, the blood forms a clot that consists of fibrin, platelets, and other components.

You may notice minor swelling or sensitivity that lasts a day or two. You may have some potential bruising, however a cannula is used which greatly reduces the risk. You can return to your usual activities after treatment. We always recommend sun protection since sunlight degrades collagen fibers.
