What Is Subcision?

Subcision is a treatment used to treat acne scarring, specifically depressed acne scars. This treatment is minimally invasive, comes with no downtime, and is an effective solution for various types of scarring. Whether you have pitted acne scars, surgical scars, or other forms of scarring, subcision can be a game-changer for the texture and appearance of your skin.

How Does Subcision Work?

Depressed acne scars are caused when fibrotic strands pull the skin downward to create an indentation. Subcision works by releasing these strands from underneath these scars. A tiny needle is inserted into the skin. As the needle is moved around underneath the scar it cuts the fibrotic strands, releasing the tension and allowing the skin around the scar to rise. This also triggers the release of collagen, which helps to add volume to the area which was released.

Am I A Good Candidate For Subcision?

If you have depressed acne scarring, surgical scarring, or scarring from other types of physical wounds, you may be the ideal candidate for subcision. The Skin Management Experts at FACE Skincare~Medical~Wellness will be able to determine your candidacy for subcision during your personalized consultation.

How Long Does A Typical Treatment Take?

Subcision is an in-office procedure that begins with the area being cleansed and local anesthesia applied. Once the treatment area is numb, the needle is inserted and the scar/scars are released. The typical treatment takes 5-30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of scars being treated.

What Results Will I See?

Following a subcision treatment, clients will see an improvement in the appearance of depressed scarring. Visible improvements are often seen immediately, but some swelling may occur for a few days.

Swelling subsides quickly and the skin will look smoother as the released scar tissue has time to rise from where it was previously attached to tissue below.

Is There Any Downtime?

Some swelling and bruising may occur for 2 to 3 days following the subcision treatment. Aside from this, clients can return to work immediately or other daily activities with no major restrictions.
