How Often Should You Get Botox®?

Our facial muscles are always in motion, letting us smile, frown, and express our feelings. At the same time, though, those muscles pull and tug at the overlying skin, forming lines and wrinkles. Botox® treats moderate to severe lines and wrinkles caused by the activity of facial muscles. Choosing the right Botox® provider will make a big difference in your results. At FACE Skincare~Medical~Wellness, we believe that Botox® results should look natural, and you should maintain your normal facial expressions.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® contains botulinum toxin, which works by blocking the communication between treated facial muscles and the nerves telling them to contract. When the nerves stop sending signals, the muscle becomes relaxed and smooth. This allows the skin to relax as well, erasing lines and wrinkles, so you look younger and more refreshed. With regular Botox® treatments, you can maintain this smooth, relaxed appearance.

How Often Should You Get Botox®?

Botox® lasts three to four months for most people. However, for those who have Botox® regularly, it may last as long as six months. Your results and your personal preference will determine exactly how often you should schedule your Botox® appointments.

Where is Botox® Used?

The FDA has approved Botox® to treat moderate to severe lines and wrinkles. Targeted areas include crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes, the vertical lines between the brows, and horizontal creases across the forehead. Botox® is also used off-label for lines and wrinkles around the mouth and other areas.

Is Botox® Safe?

Botox® has been FDA approved for medical uses for decades and cosmetic use since 2002. Doctors use it to treat conditions like migraines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and eyelid spasms. Although often called a neurotoxin, Botox® is not toxic to your facial nerves or muscles. Once Botox® has worn off, both the nerve and muscle will go back to functioning normally with no harm done.

What Results Will I See From Botox®?

While some people will see results in as little as 48 hours, most will see their full Botox® results within five to seven days. You will see lines and wrinkles in the treated areas become smoother and less visible as the muscles relax. We do not believe in “freezing” your face at FACE Skincare~Medical~Wellness, so your treated muscles will still move, and you will still look like yourself, just younger and more relaxed.

Is There Any Downtime After Botox®?

Some people have minor bruising or swelling after Botox® treatment. Avoid rubbing your face, especially in the days after treatment, to avoid spreading the Botox® away from the treatment site.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

If you have crow’s feet, forehead lines, or lines between your brows, you may be a good candidate for Botox®. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neuromuscular conditions, Botox® may not be right for you.
