Dysport Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What are Dysport® injections?

A: Dysport® is supplied as a single-use, sterile 300-unit vial. The dose of Dysport® for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines between your eyebrows) is a total of 50 units injected equally among the specific muscles.

Q: What is Dysport® used for?

A: Dysport® is an FDA Approved prescription injection to treat moderate to severe frown lines (those wrinkles between the eyebrows). Medically, it’s a botulinum neurotoxin (abobotulinumtoxinA), an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent. It temporarily prevents specific muscle movements that cause frown lines.

Q: How is Dysport® different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?

A: Dysport® and Botox® are both made from botulinum toxin type A. However, there are some differences: A unit of Dysport® is not equivalent a unit of Botox® so you can’t expect to use the same number of Dysport® units that you are used to using in Botox® units. The ratio of Dysport® to Botox® units is generally 2.5-3: 1 (2.5-3 times more Dysport® units per Botox® unit). There is some variation between the upper and lower face. Dysport® diffuses a bit farther than Botox® from the injection point: one to three centimeters compared to Botox’s one centimeter. This means that fewer injections are typically needed. Dysport® could act faster than Botox®. It typically takes 3-7 days with Botox® versus Dysport® acts in 1-2 days to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines. Dysport® contains less protein than Botox® which means the body should break it down more slowly. The studies are mixed, however, about whether Dysport® lasts longer than Botox®.

Q: How long does it take Dysport® to work?

A: Though results vary, there is typically a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows within 2-3 days, with a full culmination within a week.

Q: How long does Dysport® last?

A: One treatment of Dysport® can last for up to 4 months, just like Botox® or Xeomin®. You can get your next treatment as soon as you notice the wrinkles reappearing as the muscle function returns.

Q: Does Dysport® hurt?

A: Most people are surprised that the discomfort is so minimal, however we can use ice prior as an effective topical anesthetic and to minimize bruising by constricting the capillaries, for those prone to bruising.

Q: How long does Dysport® injections take?

A: The administration of Dysport® usually takes only about 5 minutes and is minimally invasive.

Q: When can I resume normal activities after Dysport®?

A: You can return to most normal activities immediately after the injections, however it is advised to avoid exercise for 24 hours post treatment, and not lay down for 4 hours post treatment.

Q: Is there anything I need to do to prepare for Dysport®?

A: To minimize the risk of bruising, it is best not to take aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils or large doses of Vitamin E (greater than 100 IU/day) for two weeks before the treatment. However, this is a precaution only.

Q: What are the side effects of Dysport®?

A: The possible side effects of Dysport® are similar to Botox® such as headache, drooping eyelids or eyebrows. After the treatment, there will be some reddening and swelling in the treated area which usually resolve within a half hour or less. As with any injections, there is always the possibility of bruising. Other possible side effects include nose and throat irritation, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, sinus inflammation, and nausea.

Q: What’s the cost of Dysport®?

A: The cost of Dysport is will vary based on the amount of product used and frequency of injections.

Q: Does Dysport® offer any rebates?

A: FACE offers special discounts to all our clients for injectables so you never pay full price. Dysport® also has a loyalty program — Aspire Galderma Awards helps you to earn rewards, bonuses and discounts for any and all Galderma facial aesthetic treatments, including Dysport®!
