How Much Does Kybella® Cost?

Over time, gravity, heredity, and accumulation of fat can lead to submental fullness, better known as a double chin. For many years, the only option for getting rid of this submental fat meant using liposuction. Now people have the option of Kybella®, the first FDA-approved injectable treatment for a double chin.

How Does Kybella® Work?

Kybella® breaks up and removes fat from under the chin using a naturally occurring substance called deoxycholic acid. This substance also helps break down fat in our digestive tract. Unlike some other options that lift loose skin but cannot address the submental fat, Kybella® can remove a significant amount of fat. The deoxycholic acid in Kybella® breaks apart fat cells, allowing the body to remove them over time. The injection process usually lasts about 15 to 20 minutes.

How Much Does Kybella® Cost?

Costs for Kybella® can vary widely depending on your location, each provider’s experience and skill, and other factors. However, Healthline estimates the average at $1200 to $1800 per treatment. During each treatment, people receive anywhere from 30 to 50 injections of Kybella®, depending on their individual needs.

What Results Will I See From Kybella®?

You will see a significant decrease in your double chin. This gives you a more sculpted neckline and can improve the appearance of loose skin. However, more significant amounts of loose skin may need a different type of treatment to tighten and firm it. Most people need two to four Kybella® treatments to achieve their treatment goals.

After removal, fat cells cannot grow back, so your results should last long-term. If you experience any dramatic changes in weight, that can change how your results look. In addition, Kybella® cannot stop the normal progress of aging, including the development of loose skin in the neck and chin area.

Is There Any Downtime After Kybella®?

You may see bruising, swelling, and some soreness in the area of the injections that lasts a few days, up to a week. Some people develop temporary areas of firmness as Kybella® works on the fat cells, but these will go away on their own. You can return to your regular activities after treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella®?

Most people with submental fullness are good candidates for Kybella®, although people with significant amounts of loose skin may want to consider a different procedure. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use Kybella®, and you should not use it if you have recently had or plan to have facial surgery.
